Christian judging for El Salvador COE
04/26/09 -
Barefoot’s own Christian Rotsko is in El Salvador this week judging at the Cup of Excellence competition. This is his first COE judging trip. Excited and pumped barely captures it. There are 60 coffees that made it through the first five rounds of national jury selection. That is a lot of coffees to cup! Likely 25-30 will make it to the final cut.
In addition to cupping those 60 coffees multiple times all week Christian is also visiting some of our farms for this year, Finca San Jose, Malacara and Teopan. Some killer coffee coming out of these three farms this year. We expect to see all three in the COE auction this year. Christian will also be cupping another 20-30 coffees outside the auction to find a certain gem coffee we have been searching for.
Stay tuned for updates and info.

Ethiopia Origin trip log
04/08/09 -
Christian finally finished his novella about his Ethiopia Origin trip.
It may be safe to say that it is every coffee professionals dream to visit Ethiopia. After all it’s where it all started, the birthplace of coffee. Okay, maybe its not fair to speak for anyone else but when I got the email from Andy, the owner of Barefoot, saying that Boot Coffee Consulting had invited us to the third Ethiopian Roundtable Conference from February eighteenth to February twenty second, I could hardly conceal my excitement. Something to the effect of a jump kick and a yelp… you know how it goes. All I could think of was all the juicy sweet, Sidamos, Yirgacheffes, Limus, Djimas, Harars, and Kaffas that have graced my pallet over the years and how I would be in the land and among the people who made it possible…
